Our Units
History of the Union:
The labour movement began in the eighteenth century and the industrial revolution in Europe because Worker’s needed representation.
The Canadian Labour Unions was formed in 1872 from groups that had provided the nine- hour movement. The nine -hour movement started in Canada and was based in Hamilton Ontario. This marked Canada’s first attempt at labour movement, pushing for the nine-hour work day which united both union and non-unionized workers alike.
Unions play an important part in the role of independence. Unions introduced protection for workers, decent wages and decent living conditions etc. Unions work very hard to protect every worker.
Union Solidarity:
Union solidarity is recognized as a fundamental part of organized labour. Unions are formed by You the members. Union members can express solidarity by sending letters of support to the editor, or make calls to phone in radio, write letters to your MPs, MPPs, City councils and your Mayor etc.
Our union has an equality statement that includes all of it members. As unionists, mutual respect, cooperation and understanding are our goals. We should neither condone nor tolerate behaviour that undermines the dignity or self-esteem of any individual or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment
